ISARC Endorses Workers’ Action Centre “Stop Wage Theft” campaign

The Stop Wage Theft campaign, led by the Workers’ Action Centre, is a call to action for the Ontario government to tackle the widespread problem of wage theft. When employers fail to pay workers for hours worked, overtime, vacation or public holiday pay, or misclassify workers to avoid legal obligations, this is considered as wage theft. The campaign highlights that a majority of surveyed workers have experienced wage theft, and argues that weak labour law enforcement has allowed employers to get away with stealing millions in wages while workers struggle to make ends meet. It calls for stronger enforcement of the Employment Standards Act, meaningful penalties for wage theft, legal reforms to close loopholes that allow wage theft to happen, and better job protections so workers can assert their rights without fear of retaliation.
