Prayer Vigil on April 5th, 2017 – Faith Leaders pray for our elected representatives for a poverty free Ontario
On April 5th, 2017, Faith Leaders from across the province met at Queen’s Park to pray for Ontario’s Members of Provincial Parliament. The focus of the prayers was for elected representatives to fulfill their responsibility to ensure that the Budget will effectively and immediately address the cycle of poverty that impacts the poor and marginalized families and individuals in Ontario. Each MPP was named and a prayer was recited for them to act compassionately. Prayer leaders included: Rev. Dr. Susan Eagle, Chair of ISARC; Rabbi Ed Elkin, First Narayever Congregation; The Right Reverend Riscylla Shaw, Bishop, Diocese of Toronto; Most Reverend Wayne Kirkpatrick, Bishop, Archdiocese of Toronto; Pandit Suraj D. Persad, Hindu Dharma Mission; Shaykh Yusuf Badat, Main Imam of Islamic Foundation; Imam Yasin Dwyer, Chaplain, Ryerson University; Rabbi Shalom Schachter, Toronto Board of Rabbis and Rev. Andrea Budgey, Chaplain, University of Toronto; and Rev. Maggie Helwig, Church of Saint Stephen-in-the-Fields .
